Development Initiative for Social Advancement, known as DISA, was established as a socio-economic development organization in 1993. DISA has been working for the rural people, especially women and children of the poor households of Bangladesh with the objectives of poverty alleviation, awareness building, social violence reduction and empowerment of women to uplift their socio-economic status. Since 1993 its long and glorious journey, it has overcome many challenges and achieved many successes; where the main strength was its people: members, beneficiaries, supporters, staff, and management team.

We have some major social intervention areas like Poverty Alleviation, Human Resource Development, and Social Rights Protection. As rural communities are always deprived of modern facilities, DISA started its programmatic intervention from the rural areas of Bangladesh, and thus, it is operating all its activities under five major programs: Education Program, Economic Development Program, Agriculture Development Program, Health Program, and Training, Research & Development Program. It also has a supporting program that is a spinoff from its existing program: Social Enterprise Program.
Worthy of mentioning, nationally and internationally, DISA is famous for its unique and pioneering project named ALOGHAR (Light House), a community library project, where the community people found a place not only for the opportunity to read books but also for doing research and participating in weekly discussion session termed as ALOR ASHOR. Our Dairy and Livestock project has also become popular among the community people and the farmer has an opportunity to sustain their dairy enterprises.
