Shamsul Alamin Group (SAG) is one of the largest conglomerates in Bangladesh whose journey commenced back in 1958 after the legendary and ambitious Late Al Haj A.K Shamsul Alamin, a young man at the time and a law graduate, quit his secured government job and pursued his vision, his dream of conquering the business world. A bold move, given that the Pakistani government suppressed most of the Bengali businessmen at the time. However, that was not much of a barrier to him for he struggled immensely against the regime which ultimately led to the development of an empire, which shaped not only his illustrious life, but also paved the path for the generations that followed and all those who worked for him over the years.

As the popular saying goes “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”, for A.K Shamsul Alamin, it was no different. Starting with the transportation business called “Pabna Ways” before moving on to intensive jute and leather exports to East Germany, Russia, Czechoslovakia (modern day Czech Republic) etc. which dominated the period from the 60s to late 70s.

Following huge success and the group’s goal to expand, SAG then became one of the first in the country to enter the Primary Textile market in 1983, forming the company Shamsul Alamin Cotton Mills Ltd. To this day, the textile division of SAG continues to dominate the yarn market despite strong competition. The factors? Quality resulting from the best machineries from Europe and Japan, efficient factory management and most of all, trust and integrity, two words synonymous with the group’s name which have led to a loyal customer base. Presently, our primary textile division has the capacity to produce more than 100,000 spindles or 30 tons of yarn per day.

Mindful of the ever-growing housing needs of this nation of 160 million, SAG entered the real estate market in 1992 under the name Shamsul Alamin Real Estate Ltd (SARE) with the mission to provide better homes for a better life and is now one of the most renowned developers in the country. With the passage of time, the progressive and innovative spirit of SAG has been spearheaded by the later generations, pioneering in more diverse fields of business such as leather, edible oil refinery, RMG exports, financial services, trading and retailing. Currently, the group is home to more than 1500 employees.

A.K Shamsul Alamin not only created a business legacy but a brand name which is one of the most renowned, trusted and respected in Bangladesh today. His philosophy: not to simply measure success by financial gains but also how much good is given back to society is greatly reflected in the long 60 years history of the group. The group has been actively involved in Corporate Social Responsibility in various forms; from charitable works to setting up educational institutions and accommodation for the underprivileged in various parts of the country.
