Power is the prime mover for the economic development of a country. For sustainable growth of GDP, Bangladesh needs sustainable, reliable and cost-effective power supply for feeding its emerging economy. In spite of financial constraints and indigenous gas supply shortages, the Government of Bangladesh has designed a strategy to overcome the crisis and at the same time to meet up the ever increasing demand for power. The Government has launched immediate, short, medium and long term programs to increase power supply through introduction of fuel mix (gas, coal, liquid fuel, nuclear energy, renewable energy and power import from neighbouring countries), demand side management, energy efficiency and conservation. The Government has adopted a Master Plan and planned to generate 24,000 MW by 2021 and 40,000 MW by 2030 and 60,000 MW by 2041. North-West Power Generation Co. Ltd.
